ur founder David H.McConnell was a progressive pioneer, an impressive visionary, a courageous game-changer, and above all, a champion of women. But he didn’t set out to create a beauty company. He was a travelling book salesperson who offered beauty products as a gift. He soon realised customers were more interested in the free perfume samples than the books. From a small New York City office, McConnell mixed our first fragrances himself, and recruited a team of women to be sales Representatives. It was a radical business model in 1886, but McConnell believed in the power of community, and was passionate about giving women economic freedom. We’ve been doing beauty differently for over 135 years across the world and over 60 years here in the UK. Beauty to us is innovation. Beauty is discovery. Beauty is joy, expertise and value. Beauty is doing what’s right. It’s transforming lives. Creating a better tomorrow today. We believe beauty should put food on tables, as well as mascara on lashes. Because beauty is empowerment. We’re a community of beauty pioneers. A community that changes lives for the better. A community of people connected by beauty, innovation and shared passions. Our Reps are at the heart of what we do. Whether it’s getting the latest beauty products in the hands of customers, supporting their communities or sharing their story with others, our Reps are at the forefront of Avon. We’ve pioneered positive change for women, to transform lives across the UK. From bringing them economic freedom so they can shape their own future to speaking up and speaking out on issues that matter to our communities, we support the causes that matter most to allow women to lead safe and healthy lives. We believe that a better world for women is a better world for all. In 2020 our community raised over £1m, helping to keep charities open and supporting those who need it most. This year we’re on a mission to raise even more.
